The Nature of the Beast

Keep in mind that while every effort is made to accurately represent the true colors of my yarns, your monitor settings may affect the appearance of these colors on your screen. Due to the nature of hand dyed yarns, no two skeins are identical and this is especially noticeable if you use one skein and then the other. To avoid any weirdness in your project, I suggest switching from one skein to the other every other row. Unless you like the weirdness, which is cool. Please be sure to order enough skeins for your project and I will send the skeins that look most alike together. Some of my colorways may not make another appearance so get it while you can!

I use only professional grade wash fast acid dyes and citric acid. All yarns are soaked completely before dyeing to ensure proper dye absorption and thoroughly rinsed after dyeing is complete to ensure minimal bleeding. I do my best to remove excess dye, but I still recommend washing finished projects individually. Heavily pigmented colors may still discharge a small amount of excess dye.

I label all of my yarns with washing instructions specific for the fibers of the yarn, but a good rule of thumb for all hand dyed yarns is to hand wash items you've created in cold water and unscented wool wash or a gentle soap such as Dawn dish soap. Don't use Dawn Ultra--just the basic, boring Dawn or you'll get too many suds. I know scented wool washes smell nice but please be careful if you use one because they have a tendency to make yarns bleed.

I offer several bases that are superwash but I recommend hand washing your projects with like colors, in cold water, and with a very gentle wool wash. This will help to extend the life of your finished object, as well as prevent unwanted discharge of dye.

If you would like me to custom dye something for you please send me a message and I will work with you to get the yarn of your dreams. Please allow 3-6 weeks for custom orders. I will communicate with you if there are any delays.

The Gift of Yarn Program

The Gift of Yarn Program is a fun and unique one! We all want our loved ones to give us yarn to celebrate that special occasion but sometimes it's difficult to explain to them exactly what you want. I know my husband's eyes glaze over when I start talking about it!

So to prevent your loved one from buying you Red Heart when you really wanted something super yummy, I've come up with the perfect solution. Your loved one buys the package of their choice and then you choose the color and fiber!

During checkout, they'll give me your email and a date when I can contact you. After that date, I'll email you asking what color and fiber you want.

You can choose from anything that I have in my current stock. If you don't see something you like you can wait til the next month to see if a new colorway appeals to you, as I release new colorways every month. There is no expiration! If your loved one buys the 1/2 Year of Yarn or the Year of Yarn, you can "bank" your yarns. So if you don't see anything one month, you can get 2 skeins the following month. Or -- if your loved one buys the 1/2 Year (6 skeins) or full year (12 skeins) you can get all of it at once!
